In the 70's, one of the biggest needs of the manufacturers of sauces, pickles, seasonings, etc. was to have access to fresh agricultural products all year round.
This market opportunity led to the setting up of a company the main function of which was to replace the fresh chili by the so-called Mash (homogeneous paste), which is nothing more than a conservation process of chili with salt, acidity and other means in order to obtain a fermented paste of hot chili, the organoleptic properties of which in some cases are even better than those of fresh products. 

In 1991 our founding partner acquired the company Sociedad Agrícola Industrial Quirós Murillo, S. A. (Agriquimsa), which was duly established and had been granted the benefits of an export promotion law, which at that time was enacted to increase the export supply of Costa Rica.
One of the great challenges at the time was to select the native varieties of Costa Rica that were being grown and had the potential to be exported to target markets. The other challenge was to design a local supply strategy that could guarantee the necessary quantities required by the target markets.

Throughout the years, we changed the traditional agricultural system by creating an infrastructure of satellite plants in the best areas of agricultural production, as well as collection centers, some of which are owned by the Company while in other cases the administration is centralized in Agriquimsa.
This has enabled us not only to provide a good supply, but also to provide an adequate post-harvest handling, since the raw materials are processed within 24 hours after harvest. We guarantee first class quality of our products, which are handled according to the Standards of Good Agricultural and Manufacturing Practices.

 We are also able to be very close to our farmers and their community by providing alternative sources of income, guaranteeing our clients that the agricultural process complies with the agronomic requirements of international markets, their standards and legislation.

Our hot chili portfolio has grown and we can now offer the market a wider range of products of different varieties in terms of flavors, spice levels, texture, colors, etc. all year round.
Innovation has not passed us by and this year we opened our new plant for Dehydrated Products where we process different varieties of hot chili peppers which are a line of products. We shall continue expanding according to the needs of our customers.
